Low scores

The Show-Me Institute recently published a Missouri School Rankings website giving the Camdenton R-III District a ranking of 263 out of 516 for the 2018/2019 year.

The Math rankings are even more worrisome with only 36.9 percent of our students proficient. The budget for our school district exceeds 55-million-dollars per year, making it one of the wealthiest around. We need to move past the idea that more money will solve the woes of public education.

We have extremely talented teachers, and students yet we still produce disappointingly low scores. It’s time we take an honest hard look at the curriculum.

We should set performance goals for the new superintendent, and demand those goals be met. Failure to achieve those goals must be considered totally unacceptable. We should never again reward upper-level administrators with extended contracts or salary increases while test scores remain below our acceptable standards.
